Our Collection

1951 Raleigh Sports "C" Tourist

A frameset long disassembled now brought back to life, with a slightly Americanized twist - whitewall EA3 tires. Equipped with a 4-speed Sturmey-Archer Dynofour FG hub.

1970 Raleigh Twenty

A lucky little find offered to me by another local collector who noted my distinct (compared to the Schwinn monopoly at the show) collection of Raleighs at the last Coral Ridge cycle show.

1978 Raleigh Professional Mk.V

This 1978 Raleigh Professional Mk V came from a friend, who graciously gave me the right of first refusal. While the frame itself has not led the most pampered life, it is host to a nearly complete, first-generation Campagnolo Super Record groupset.

1979 Peugeot PY10 CP "Prestige Peugeot"
Made for the 1980 New York International Bike Show

A Peugeot PY10 CP with unique provenance, built with an all-gold group for exhibition at the 1980 NY International Bicycle Show. Red-label Reynolds 531SL.

Currently wearing Galli sidepulls in place of the original Mafac centerpulls that were part of the 1980 display specifications.

Visit the PY10's photo gallery.

1979 Rudge DL-1 Roadster

With exception to the 1973 DL-1, this is the largest bike in the collection; a well-preserved example, no less. Nottingham-built for export to Curacao. Somehow, this one made it's way to sunny Florida. This bike has intrigued me more then any other - I'm currently on the hunt for any other existing examples or paperwork regarding the sale of these Rudge DL-1s to the Curacao Trading Corp. More...

1980 Raleigh Sports

Bikeforums.net member pastorbobnlnh ("Pastor Bob") alerted me to this '80 Sports thrown out at his local (New London, New Hampshire) town dump, and offered to send it my way for shipping cost if I wished. At the news of it being a 23" frame model in Silver, I quickly took him up on the offer. This near-showroom 1980 Sports is one of the best-kept Raleighs of the collection.

1980 Schwinn Continentals, all-chrome

More oddball stuff - three all-chrome, 1980 ladies' Schwinn Continentals. Located all three in the back of a local shop. Appear to be original chrome jobs, all from 1980.

1982 Schwinn Superior #21057

One is not enough, so I bought another. This one came to me after I was informed of a strange Paramount at one of the local shops - which turned out to be a repainted Superior with a few extra braze-ons, wearing a Paramount headbadge. The price was right, and the Imron paint job is excellent.

Now built up as a faux French tourer/randonneur with Simplex SLJ mechs, TA Pro 5 Vis crankset, and CLB-2 brakes.

Purchased April 2010.

199? Guerciotti EL

Wrecked 2008 - Guerciotti w/oversized Columbus EL tubing. One of the best framesets I've ever ridden. Shimano 600 tri-color w/STI shifters. Met its match with a Mercedes CLK 230 convertible.

19?? faux Rossin

Mystery frame w/English threading. Came from Belgium. Other then that, I know nothing else - except that it's darn pretty.

195? Murray Aeroline

An unusual local find. Survived most of its years reasonably intact, and its original white paint still remains. The red is an amateur repaint by a previous owner. As with the '47 Henderson, sold off. Click for larger photo.

1969 Robin Hood (Raleigh) Sports

For quite a time, I wondered if I'd ever see anything but a Magna at a garage sale - this one proved me wrong! Not pretty, but complete. Not a dent in the fenders, but rusted a good deal in that specific area. Was my daily rider until the '80 Sports below showed up. More...

1970 AMF-Hercules (Raleigh) Sports

A rusty, crusty dark-green AMF-Hercules abandoned by one of the local bike shops. 21" frame, wire stay fenders, spiderweb rust under the paint. Parts bike if I've ever seen one. Parted out.

1971 Raleigh Sports S22

An example of the 1968-1972 all-gold, spartan editions of the Raleigh Sports. This one had been chucked out onto the sidewalk for the next-day's trash collection by its former owner.

1973 Columbia Tourist

A Tourist yes, but not the Raleigh DL-1 design you may be thinking of. A parade cycle in its former life. With Sturmey-Archer AW 3-speed hub, and Duro whitewall tyres.

1973 Raleigh Sports S22L

This one was purchased on as a companion to my '71 all-gold Sports S22 above. The transition between the earlier parts used in '72 and the various new tooling for '73 are apparent on this machine. Auction photo shown. Click for additional photo.

1973 Raleigh Sports

Another abandoned trash pile find. This one was missing everything short of its fenders, but had a few frame clamps on it that indicated that it had been used with a Shimano 333 rear hub sometime in its life. I was stupid enough to "restore" this one, only to realize my folly later.

1973 Raleigh DL-1

Your average U.S.-spec Raleigh DL-1. Click the photo to enlarge.

1974 Raleigh Sports

A nice little Craigslist find, in very nice shape and requiring minimal work to restore it to original specifications. This one had a Shimano 333 replacement rim, lucky I had a Sturmey wheel in the shed. Click for large photo.

1974 Raleigh Sprite

Who'd ever think of putting this beautiful cycle out on the curb for the trash collection? Nevertheless, that's where this wonderfully original '74 Sprite was when I found it. All original and complete, right down to the rear reflector. This one is a DL95L, the 10-speed variant.

1975 Raleigh Twenty

Yet another Twenty.

1976/7 Raleigh Gran Sport

This beat, late '70s Raleigh Gran Sport frameset came to me via Craigslist, complete with jammed aluminum stem and seatpost (and a curious mix of Japanese Raleigh components that were not spec'ed until 1977 - even though the Gran Sport was dropped from the line in 1976). Started as a failed English club bike project, and ultimately became a fixed gear. I still have the original fork with the post stub stuck in it, if anyone needs it - and is up to getting it out with lye.

1978 Guerciotti "GL"

Oddball SL-tubed Guerciotti frame with a respray. Last I saw of it, it was a 10-speed upright-bar commuter in Wynwood.

1980 Team Miyata

1982 Trek 728/720

Who likes a whippy ride with no liveleness at all? Meet this Trek. Sure, it looked nice, but that was just about it. Reported to have cracked at the seatstays, three years after I parted with it.

1982 Schwinn Superior #20609

Perhaps the last incarnation of what one might consider the last of the "traditional" Paramounts, for they were constructed of Schwinn's overstock of Nervex lugs and tubing; though I've heard some Columbus tubesets might have ambled their way onto a few of these. These were originally spec'ed with Campagnolo Nuovo Gran Sport - this one is getting a Super Record/Dia-Compe New Gran Compe 450 component mix.

1982 Guerciotti

Another Guerciotti frame - but this one has not been repainted unlike the '78 listed here. Has a racing tag underneath the top tube. Mixed modern build, primarily Campagnolo Veloce. Had a "PROTOTYPE" badged RD when I sold it.

1982 Basso/D'Arienzo

Damaged frame with Campagnolo Triomphe - components ended up on my 1986 Raleigh USA Grand Prix.

1984 Raleigh USA Alyeska

Traded it for the faux Rossin. It was supposed to be the Trek 728's replacement, but it was not much of an improvement. Never found a comfort zone with it. Need I mention that it was a magnet for high-speed shimmy?

Picture #1 (build mockup)

1984 Raleigh USA Competition

Third from the top of the racing line in the 1984 Raleigh USA catalog (not including the Ilkeston Team Professional). The original Suntour Cyclone components were swapped for an all-white Suntour Cyclone 7000 groupset from a donor Schwinn.

Picture #4
1984 Raleigh USA Super Course

One notch below the Competition in the catalogs - second of the three Racing models that made up the red/white/blue series. Built up with Campagnolo Victory and Shimano 600 Arabesque shifters, hand-filed smooth.

Picture #2
Picture #3
1985 Raleigh USA Super Course

Another example of the Super Course, this one from 1985. Only model during the paint/chrome years ('84/5) to recieve a variant on the main color (metallic blue in '84, "Blueberry" in 85). Click to enalrge main photo.

1986 Raleigh USA Grand Prix

Donor frame to replace the Basso. My stable favorite until the '61 Paramount popped up. 1985 Campagnolo Triomphe components. In retrospect, a Campagnolo Victory RD would have been an improvement.
